PowerPress wants to PUMP you up. Revolutionary in the world of fitness technology, PowerPress is an ingenious grip adapter that transforms the ancient barbell into a safer, more effective workout system. PowerPress dramatically upgrades the barbell by enabling the lifter's hands to slide together in a balanced, ergonomic motion during a press, intensely loading more muscle using less than half of the usual weight. It enables body-builders, power-lifters, and athletes to take their chest, shoulder and tricep training to the next level while virtually eliminating risk of strain or injury.

PowerPress was developed by Muscle Engineering Inc., a collaboration between Ottawa inventor, Guy Murray and Design 1st. Well known as a personal trainer, Guy has worked with several champion body builders, power lifters and strongman competitors as well as Hollywood celebrities, such as Glenn Close and Jeremy Irons. PowerPress was conceived out of Guy’s frustration as he watched his clients perform risky barbell and dumbbell exercises that could not work the entire group of chest and shoulder muscles in an intense yet, balanced and safe manner. Dumbbells flys are awkward and dangerous, and the drop-in effect at the top means they don't work the whole chest. The old barbell press requires dangerously heavy weights and it doesn't fully engage the inner and upper pec regions.

PowerPress' patent-pending BioKinetic Controller is a bio-mechanically engineered double-rack-and-pinion innovation that guarantees perfectly balanced, ergonomic motion for the safest, most effective and complete workout possible. PowerPress transforms the straight up-and-down action of the barbell press into a natural arc that safely maximizes loading of the target muscle groups.

Innovative Fitness Equipment Design

The design team behind the successful innovation loved this project.  Guy Murray is our perfect client.  As an elite fitness trainer Guy lived the problem. He identified the opportunity and went looking for an expert team to help design a product.  His passion to make the product perfect and his knowledge of the body pushed the team at Design 1st to the final solution.  It was a lot of fun for the mechanical engineers developing the mechanisms for the patent pending symmetric resistance system.  The industrial design team hit the mark incorporating the visual elements of a gym environment with a rugged look for the product as they optimized the smooth traction feel during the lifting exercise.

Design 1st is all pumped up about the Power Press – it’s a fantastic product that is on the leading edge of fitness technology.  We loved it so much we co-founded Muscle Engineering Inc., the company that will bring this product to market.  We are looking forward to a) getting you off the couch or b) helping you put down your ancient dumbbells and feeling the burn with a better, safer workout with PowerPress in 2013.
