There are 1000’s of prototype shops across North America, choosing the right one depends on a couple factors including:
-
- The complexity of your product
- Budget
- Durability of your product (3D Printing vs. Machined Parts – although these are getting closer)
- Cost and Time Frames
- What you are trying to test with your prototype
If you have a simple 3 part product, that you want to test the design of before going to production tooling, getting professional SLA’s created may work. If you need a fast housing to test your electronics – printing on your own 3D printer or going to your local maker shop to get parts 3D Printed might work. If you are looking for durability or waterproofness a machine shop, or prototyping house with SLS or even DMLS equipment may fit the bill
Some good resources, to find prototype shops include:
-
- Agile Prototypes (one of our favorite suppliers in Canada)
- Fictiv (Virtual prototyping service)
- Local maker spaces in your community
