How long does prototyping take?

From Idea to Prototype in as Little as Six Weeks!
Ready to Start?
Prototypes can take one hour to one year. It depends on the type of prototype you build!
Is it a foam model prototype? A basic geometry 3D CAD rendering? Or do you want a high-fidelity alpha prototype that looks and functions like a manufacturable product?
Before you can decide on the length of time to complete a prototype you know what goals you want for your prototype, and what stage you are in the product development process.
For early stage concept level prototypes, these can be built in hours. Types of prototypes can include foam mock-ups, basic geometry 3D CAD renderings and sketches.
But for high quality, alpha prototypes, the minimum timeframe to go from idea is 1-6 weeks. But again, this all depends on the complexity of your product. A interactive, connected electronics product could take 6+ weeks. While a simple 4 part mechanical product – like a coffee cup, can be complete in a week or less.
