Product Design Requirements

Christie Digital came to Design 1st for an industrial design refresh and guidance on injection molded part design for two flagship $50,000+ per unit projector product lines. Working with the electronics and engineering team at Christie, the outcome was updated corporate branding for the products. One for mobile deployment and one for movie theaters.

  • Create multiple design concepts to give Christie's flagship projector a new look aligned with the brand.
  • Update user-interface controls to make operation simple with a streamlined design.
  • Maintain the visual ‘DNA’ and bring a clean classic consistency to the new products

Design and Engineering Challenges

Design 1st moved quickly from ideas to concept sketches, providing the Christie team with a wide selection of rendered sketch families to choose from that also fit closely with the technical mechanical internal ‘engine’ planned in parallel.

  • Blended visual elements and re-configured the UI presentation (colour, keys, display and labeling).
  • Solve thermal issues with updated housing design of injection molded parts.
  • Creation of a virtual 3D model for prototype simulations of devices with internal electronic components.

Product Results

Working with the Christie team, Design 1st created carefully designed parts and assemblies that balanced cost, quality, and manufacturing. Christie benefited from the ease with which the Design 1st team interfaced with their team and the Design 1st responsiveness, including an onsite stay while the engineering was being finalized.
