An Inside Glimpse Into the Development of BlueSLR's connected camera attachment
Product Design Requirements
The client, an avid photographer, came to Design 1st wanting to expand the functionality of traditional DSLR cameras with Bluetooth connectivity to an app for both remote shutter function and encoding GPS coordinates.
- Dongle attachment works with both Canon and Nikon DSLR camera models.
- GPS coordinate tagging of all phones by syncing phone location data with camera photos.
- Weatherproof and secure easy-to-use connection
- Use materials, and color that matches camera body
Design and Engineering Challenges
Implementing Design 1st’s proven process, the team was able to overcome several obstacles to:
- Seamless connection between Bluetooth® module and Android and Apple phone apps
- Dongle needed to be designed to allow the same accessory body to be used with a multitude of camera bodies - by simply changing the adapter
- Reliable connectivity in outdoor environments to app
